The IRD is a French public science and technology research institute under the joint authority of the French ministries in charge of research and cooperation.

The missions of the IRD
The IRD has three main missions: research, consultancy and training. It conducts scientific programmes contributing to the sustainable development of the southern countries, with an emphasis on the relationship between man and the environment.
The IRD's scientific activities focus on the following ambits:

• Societies and Health
• Expertise and consulting
• Support and training
